MORGANTON, N.C. -- The body of a man who was reported missing was found, headless, off the side of a North Carolina highway.
WBTV reported that Damond Lamont "Peanut" Kincaid's body was found along Highway 105 on Monday; his head was found Tuesday.
Investigators said it appeared the head may have been removed during an animal attack after the murder.
Kincaid was last seen around Granite Falls last week. Witnesses said he was in a gray Hummer with David Matthew Higgins.
When deputies with the Burke County Sheriff's Office searched the Hummer, they found blood and bullet casings.
Higgins initially denied any involvement with Kincaid's death when he was questioned by investigators. However, one of his neighbors told authorities Higgins visited his home and said he shot Kincaid and dumped his body, according to WBTV.
Investigators said when they re-questioned Higgins about the disappearance he admitted to killing Kincaid and leaving his body along the highway.
Higgins was charged with First-Degree Murder. Investigators said Higgins' neighbor is likely to be charged as an accessory.
