GREENSBORO - Former state Rep. Patsy Keever of Asheville is the No. 2 leader of the North Carolina Democratic Party.
The party's executive committee voted 306-236 on Saturday to make Keever the first vice chairman. Keever ran unsuccessfully for Congress last year.
She will succeed Nina Szlosberg-Landis, who resigned in June citing differences with Chairman Randy Voller. Some party activists still want Voller out.
The activists also plan to honor past champions as they try to regroup for the next round of elections. A reception is named in part for former Gov. Jim Hunt and ex-Supreme Court Chief Justice Henry Frye.
Democrats are trying to get their bearings after last fall's elections left them without control of either the executive or legislative branch for the first time in more than a century.
