High Point, NC -- High Point Mayor, Bernita Sims finally made a $538.78 utility payment on her outstanding utility bills, to the city she represents.
The payment was from services from August 21, 2012 to December 18, 2012.
The city's customer service manager, Bob Martin told WFMY News 2 they gave Sims a 30-day extension, October 2012.
He said the city billing office finally received a payment in November, however, the check was returned citing insufficient funds. Martin added, that it's rare for something like this to happen but he said, it does happen.
Copy of City's record of communication on the matter.
Martin says the city tried to collect on the debt and after the situation stalled, they had no choice but to disconnected services at the Candlewood Court house. The house was listed as a rented home for Sims, but records show she moved out in December 2012.
Sims' told WFMY News 2's Tony Smith over the phone, "it's all a misunderstanding'.
