DURHAM, N.C. -- A 2-year-old boy who was reported missing in Durham over the weekend was reunited with his mother Monday morning.
WRAL reports Zy'ion D'youate McCallum was found safe with a woman inside a Potter Street home. Police said his 15-year-old aunt was supposed to take him to a park Saturday, but instead left him with a woman at a Durham Area Transit Authority bus terminal in downtown.
The aunt knew the woman, but the boy's mom did not know her, according to WRAL. They said police have classified the woman as a person of interest, but have not filed any charges.
The mother and son were reunited at police headquarters around 4:30 a.m.
Zy'ion's mother told WRAL the boy's clothes and diaper were changed.
"Mostly, I just want to know who these people were. I want to actually see them," she said. "It looks to me that he was not harmed. They were actually trying to take care of him, and to them I do want to say thank you for keeping him safe."
