Firefighter Follows In Her Father's Boots, Joins Fire Dept.

Greensboro, NC-- Thursday, the Greensboro Fire Department graduated another class. The 64th Recruit Class added 17 new firefighters to the department.

However, for one father pinning a new recruit it was more than special. Battalion Chief Curtis Brown officially welcomed his daughter Temeka Brown to the department.

The ceremony was conducted at Odell Auditorium on the Greensboro College campus. The graduates completed 21 weeks of intense physical and practical exercises, and were required to successfully pass numerous written examinations.

Each individual is now certified as a North Carolina State Firefighter. The graduates will be assigned to one of 24 fire stations across the city, and must serve a six-month probationary status. Upon completion of the probationary period, the entire class will to return to the academy, and must successfully complete further written and practical examinations in order to maintain employment with the Greensboro Fire Department.
