Lexington, NC -- The Davidson County Fire Marshal submitted an accident report to Lexington city officials about the death of Lauren Cecil, an 11-year-old girl who was electrocuted in a swimming pool last week.
The City of Lexington issued the following statement* about the report:
The report indicates that in the opinion of the Fire Marshal, "it appears that the failure of the line was in or around the side by side connector on the line."
The City is working hard to determine how and why the wire failed and fell near an electrical pole. Also, since the Fire Marshal was unable to indicate why or how the energy from the line traveled the significant distance to the pump house and pool, the City is also trying to determine how this occurred as well. We anticipate this investigation will take some time and we will make every effort to come to a clear and logical understanding as to what occurred and how, but we will not let time interfere with a thorough investigation.
First and foremost our thoughts and concerns remain with the Cecil family on the loss of their daughter Lauren and the deep sadness felt by this entire community. This is a very close community and there are several City employees who know the Cecil's. We respect their privacy as we search for answers to this terrible accident.
