A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against TurboTax regarding a charge to process refunds.

The lawsuit resulted in a $6.55 million settlement, which stemmed from a charge - typically $29.95 - for users who opted to have their TurboTax fees deducted from their refund, according to a statement sent out late Tuesday night by a settlement administrator.

From 2008 through 2012 when TurboTax Online Refund Processing Service users completed their refund they were asked if they wanted the fees deducted from their refund or pay them separately. There was no additional fee to pay TurboTax using a checking account.

The statement said Intuit, the owner of TurboTax, believed there was nothing wrong with how they charged people and denied claims made in the lawsuit.

If you were affected by the TurboTax fee, you may submit a claim form at www.turbotaxclassaction.com or by calling 1-888-980-9394.
