Raleigh, NC -- A retired Army Soldier won big money after playing the NC Education Lottery.

Lottery officials said Ronnie Jackson, from High Point, won $40 playing the 'Extreme Green' scratch-off game Tuesday. Jackson went back into the store and bought a '20X The Money' scratch-off ticket. That decision resulted in a $1 million dollar win.

Jackson chose a $600,000 cash payout option, rather than annual payments of $50,000 a year for 20 years.

Jackson said the first thing he plans to do is pay off his mortgage or buy a new house. The winning ticket was purchased at The Pop Shoppe on Hickswood Road in High Point.
