Rockingham County, NC -- Family members of a couple arrested in their child's death are making arrangement for the 17-month -old's burial.

An uncle of Antonio Gwynn told WFMY News 2, police caught up with the couple when Gwynn's father noticed movement inside his vacant house in Caswell County and called 9-1-1.

The pair appeared in court Wednesday. They were appointed public defenders.

Antonio Gwynn is charged with second-degree murder and felony child abuse. Heather Gwynn is facing felony child abuse.

Police would not say how the child died, but say she was unresponsive when they responded to an emergency call in the couple's home in Eden.

Gwynn was on probation in Alamance County before this incident.

According to a court staff, Gwynn was fulfilling his probation duties and his officer had no idea he moved to Rockingham County with his wife in the last month.

The 22-year-old has been in and out of the criminal justice system since he was 16-years-old.

His record in Alamance County began in 2007 when he was convicted of breaking and entering.

He was also found guilty of injury to property. That same year, authorities charged him with a misdemeanor for violating his probation - which court documents show he admitted to.

In 2008, Gwynn had a misdemeanor larceny charge and a few instances of obtaining property under false pretense.

Last year, he was charged with domestic violence but the district attorney dismissed the charge.

Heather Gwynn, on the other hand, was charged with not having her child in a car seat in June. That case is pending.

The couple is scheduled to be in court August 6th.
