Asheboro, NC -- Two children, ages 5 and 3, died in a house fire in Randolph County Saturday morning, according to the sheriff's office.

Several emergency crews responded to a mobile home on Buffalo Ford Road in Asheboro just after 10 a.m.

Investigators say there were four people in the home at the time--the two children and two adults. The adults woke up to the smell of smoke and tried to get the children out of the home without success. Neighbors also saw and smelled smoke and called 911.

The 5-year-old died at the scene, and his 3-year-old brother later died at Randolph Hospital.

The boys were home with their mother and another adult male living in the mobile home. Both adults are being treated for smoke inhalation and burns. Deputies say their injuries are not life-threatening.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of this fire.

Deputies say they will not release the children's names until next of kin is notified.
