Greensboro In NC's Top 10 For Vehicle Crashes

Raleigh, NC -- Greensboro is ranked in the top 10 cities for vehicle crashes in 2012.

Data from the North Carolina Department of Transportation says Greensboro placed seventh in cities with a population of 10,000 or more; Asheville attained a three-year streak of ranking first.

The rankings are based on several factors, including: reported crashes, crash severity and crash rates based upon population. 

Greensboro had a total of 24,055 crashes in 2012, according to the report. Among those crashes, 4.41 percent involved alcohol, 63 were fatal and 8,689 crashes had non-fatal injuries. Greensboro ranked ninth in 2009, fourth in 2010 and returned to ninth place in 2011.

High Point ranked 15th, Burlington 16th and Winston-Salem placed 20th.

Guilford County was ranked 44th among NC's 100 counties for crashes, down from placing 38th in the state in 2011.

Camden County in northeastern NC came in at 100 for the last two years.
