Waxahaw, NC -- The mayor of the Union County town of Waxhaw has been arrested on a drunken driving charge.
Court records show 41-year-old Daune Gardner had a blood alcohol level of 0.18 percent, more than twice the legal limit in North Carolina.
Gardner faces an Aug. 15 hearing.
She was arrested June 10 by a town police officer who saw the mayor's car cross the center line of the road several times.
She would not talk about the charge. She had apologized at a town meeting last week.
Waxhaw Town Commission on Tuesday discussed a censure proposal. The council is expected to consider the issue at another meeting.
Commissioner Joyce Blythe says Gardner should resign.
