Greensboro, NC-- The Parks & Recreation Department is asking people to stop feeding the wildlife because it is detrimental to the environment, animals, and people.

The city is introducing the Do Not Feed Wildlife Campaign 2013 to spread the word about the dangers of feeding animals in area parks.

Most commonly people feed Canadian geese. The geese can produce more than a pound of feces daily carrying E. coli bacteria and other infections.

Feeding also contributes to over population in parks and gardens around Greensboro. Too many of them isn't good for landscaping and lawns.

It's best for people to leave the geese alone. They can become aggressive when provoked by humans and should not be fed.

When people feed the wildlife they tend to feed them things like bread, crackers, and popcorn. Those kinds of items can malnourish the animals. Instead they need things like insects, grass, and plants.

The Greensboro campaign, Do Not Feed Wildlife will include signage, brochures, and a video.
