Winston-Salem - Nathaniel Fowler has lived in his Winston-Salem home along with his wife for more than 20 years, and during Thursday's storm, the house he loves could have been destroyed if an enormous tree had fallen only four feet further to the left.

Fowler says unlike a normal afternoon, he was not sitting in his truck parked in his driveway, and instead was in his garage as the storm hit.

Fowler said, "I always did sit in my truck every day. This particular time, I did not sit in my truck, I don't know why. I found out later."

As the storm raged, trees fell down around, but not on, his house, and he says he is grateful he and his wife are ok. "I looked at it and said Lord you really blessed us, cause my wife, she wasn't here, and if she'd been here, it would have torn up her car."

The northwestern section of Forsyth County received some of the worst damage from the storm that raced through the Triad on Thursday night.

Crews with Duke Power are working around the clock to have power restored, and told News 2 they hope to have nearly all power back on in the Triad by Sunday night.
