NORTH CAROLINA - As if car repairs weren't painful enough, they're even more painful where we live.
North Carolina ranks fourth in the nation for most expensive auto repairs. The average cost for parts is close to $250. Add in the average cost of labor at $140 dollars, and you're paying $390 on average each time you're taking your car to the shop.
With an average total diagnostics-and-repair bill of $393, New Jersey ranked number 1 on the list.
New Jersey was in good company. The repair-cost trend in 2012 generally moved from west to east while associated expenses nationwide headed north.
Eastern states including New Jersey, North Carolina, Mayland, as well as the District of Columbia, dominated the top five in 2012, with California being the lone West Coast representative.
