Greensboro, NC- Controversy seems be brewing over parking tickets issued in downtown Greensboro. Some of those who received tickets think enforcement officers issue too many.

WFMY News 2 obtained e-mails sent to the City of Greensboro. In these e-mails, downtown stakeholders expressed frustration and concerns over the parking situation.

Milton Kern, a downtown developer is one of them. He wrote an e-mail to the city calling the situation, "tickets gone wild" and called his citations, "silly infractions."

Kern told WFMY News 2's Liz Crawford that he's been frustrated for over a year. He doesn't think the enforcement officers are properly trained the way police might be if they were in charge of parking tickets.

Another frustrated business owner wrote an e-mail that said, "the overzealous issuance of parking tickets is undermining the public acceptance of doing business downtown and undoing the business health of the central business district."

Kern told News 2 that he is attending a meeting Thursday morning with other stakeholders about the parking tension. He said a city representative along with a member of Downtown Greensboro Incorporated will attend.

City Manager, Denise Turner responded to the frustrated e-mails. Her e-mail said in part:

Parking enforcement positions were increased a couple of years ago and that has added some of the changes you and others have experienced....Obviously this is an ongoing balance between those who think we don't enforce enough and those who find our enforcement too zealous.

Turner also indicated that she would have the assistant city manager look at the program and evaluate potential changes.
