Burlington, NC -- Some parents in Burlington and Mebane are on edge after being approached by a man they say asked personal questions about their children's bodily functions.
A concerned viewer contacted WFMY News 2 and said the man followed her through a Burlington grocery store, asking her questions about her daughter's potty training.
She didn't want to go on camera, but she said, "It was very unnerving but I thought he was a little off so I didn't think too much of it. But now there are lots of women coming out on Facebook saying that he's stopped them talking about the same stuff." She also said, "He seems to be targeting women with small children. He may be harmless, but it's scary."
Burlington Police say they've received a complaint within the last few days of the same type of behavior.
"If we have this many people that contact the news or our department to report the incident, until we can determine it is not a public safety issue, we are going to address it like it is," said Lt. Brian Long with the Burlington Police Department.
The department has launched an investigation but isn't saying much because they do not want to compromise it.
They're trying to determine how widespread this issue is and want anyone with information to come forward.
"I think the issue is his activities have drawn the attention, or drawn to their attention that something is not right. So we have a duty then to look into what he is doing and determine what we can do, determine if he is committing a violation of the law," added Long.
If you have seen this man, or know any information about him, contact Burlington Police at 336-229-3500.
