Winston-Salem, NC -- Winston-Salem Police are warning the community of a man posing as a police officer.
Investigators said an 81-year-old woman fell victim to the man's scheme. The victim told police, the man identified himself as Detective Joe Kennedy with the Police Department. He told her that he was looking into the State Employees Credit Union on New Walkertown Road in Winston-Salem for irregularities with accounts.
The woman was told she needed to withdraw money and transfer it to another bank. The victim said the man called a person on the phone who she thought was the Chief and said it was in her best interest to move her funds. The man posing as a police officer then got in the victim's car as they drove to withdraw money from her account at the bank and then returned to her house.
The victim was then told the serial numbers on the money had to be checked with the man's partner. The woman left the room and when she returned the money and the man was gone.
