Reidsville, NC -- A newspaper carrier, just doing his normal paper route early Sunday, is now being called a hero.
"I feel like, if it wasn't for Mr. Bradshaw. I wouldn't be alive today," said Danny Portfield, who was rescued from his burning home.
Sunday morning just after 5 am, Steve Bradshaw saw smoke and fire coming from a house on Northwest Market Street in Reidsville. Bradshaw called 911, but what happened next was a game changer.
"To me that's not being a hero, that's just doing what everyone should do. We all need to looking out for each other," said Steve Bradshaw, newspaper carrier.
Bradshaw realized someone was still in the house. Danny Porterfield was sleeping inside.
"I just reached up and grabbed and pulled him on out," said Bradshaw.
Bradshaw coached and helped Porterfield out safely before fire crews arrived.
Fire Marshal Jay Harris said they don't have a cause of the fire yet, it is currently under investigation.
