Greensboro, NC -- Bennett College announced Wednesday they will not implement furloughs during this school year.

A notice sent to faculty and staff by interim president, Dr. Esther Terry, stated, "I am profoundly pleased to inform you that at a May 3rd meeting with members of the Board of Trustees, it was determined that, given several significant forecasts relative to the fiscal affairs of the College, the furlough initiative will not be implemented during the current school year."

The furlough's purpose was to help close a deficit in the budget. Terry told employees they would need to take off two unpaid days in May and four in June, according to a report by the AP.

Bennett College was founded in 1873 and is one of two historically black women's colleges in the country. Their total enrollment is 766 full-time and part-time students, according to the school's website.

The college announced Monday they appointed Rosalind Fuse-Hall as their new president.
