  • Greensboro, NC -- Runners, walkers, and supporters are invited to attend the Walk 4 Our Kids 5K.

The event on Saturday, May 11 is hosted by the non-profit organization Kids of Childhood Cancer. The group helps families of kids fighting cancer at Brenner Children's Hospital. They offer assistance everything from food to bills to even sending families on a beach getaway at a condo the organization purchased on Topsail Island.

Sarah and Charlie DiGerolamo founded Kids of Childhood Cancer to help other families when their son Vinny was fighting the disease. WFMY News 2 has followed Vinny's journey over the years. He was a brave fighter who lost his five-year battle with cancer in February at the age of 9.

This year's 5K will be a special one because it's the day before Mother's Day. There will be a special tribute to all the mothers who have lost children to cancer.

Even if you can't attend the event, you can donate to Kids of Childhood Cancer at either of the two links below.

The Walk 4 Our Kids 5K is Saturday, May 11 at Fourth of July Park in Kernersville. Register online at the link below or on site from 8-8:45 the morning of the event. The walk/run starts at 9am.
