Davidson County --The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal car crash on I-85.
Troopers say that a woman died in a one car accident on Interstate 85.
It happened on the northbound side at mile marker 100, Sunday. This is a stretch of interstate between Lexington and Thomasville.
Troopers say that the call came in just after 4PM. They believe that the driver, identified as Shelley Hughes Jennings, 38, fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the road. They say Jennings then over-corrected crossing the three Northbound lanes. The car overturned down an embankment and hit a tree.
Troopers say Jennings was not wearing a seatbelt. Her 11-year-old son, also in the front seat, was wearing a seatbelt. Troopers say his physical injuries are minor.
