High Point, NC - Family, friends and staff members of Ragsdale High School are remembering the life of 18 year old RyChon Hawkins.
Hawkins was involved in an accident when he and two other classmates were on the way back to High Point from Myrtle Beach, SC. The three had gone there for their spring break trip.
According to South Carolina State Trooper Sonny Collins, the accident happened on the northbound side of U.S. 501 near Old Ebenezer Road around 5am on Sunday. Collins said the car left the road, ran over a guardrail and hit a tree.
Investigators said Hawkins who was in the front passenger side nor the other teenagers in the car were wearing their seatbelts. Everyone in the car was taken to local hospital.
Hawkins was pronounced dead at the hospital. Bawa-Shitgurum was released on Sunday afternoon. And family members say DeBryan Brown is still in critical condition at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
It is unclear when DeBryan will be released, family members tell WFMY he's scheduled for spinal surgery.
