Gibsonville, NC - Laura Ridge and her family have strength like you couldn't imagine.

Nearly a month ago, her one-year-old and four-year-old cousins, Jade Hawks and Matthew "Zade" Ridge-Poulos, died in a house fire.

Their grandfather and a Good Samaritan tried to save them but couldn't.

WFMY News 2's Morgan Hightower spoke to Steven Cosner, the man who stopped to help, last month in the hospital. He said he didn't think he was a hero because as he explained, "Heroes save people." Unfortunately, he wasn't able to.

Laura doesn't agree. She says Steven is their hero and now her family is doing all they can to thank him.

"Even though we have experienced this loss and this tragedy, I don't feel like we need to keep dwelling on poor me, poor me, you know I think we need to pay it forward," said Laura Ridge.

She's organized a bluegrass benefit to help cover Cosner's medical bills.

He suffered second-degree burns trying to save Jade and Zade.

"It's like you can't really put words to it to say how grateful you are that there is someone, or people out there that have that big of a heart," said Ridge. "We are just trying to have a lot of fun and get some happy feelings coming from the bad stuff that's happened."

"Because so many people have come to help us and I just feel like it's been God's will honestly, that's the reason why I have pushed forward to do this," said Ridge.

Seven bluegrass bands will play at the event which will be held April 20.

The benefit will be a family-friendly event with free face painting for the kids.

Music will begin at 1 p.m. at Lil' John's Mountain Music Festival located at 1256 Longest Acre Road Snow Camp, NC 27349.

Admission is $20 for adults and free for children 12 and under.

Below is a list of some of the bands performing:
Kevin Richardson and Cutting Edge
Strings of Faith
Al Batten & The Bluegrass Reunion
Constant Change
Lost and Found
Blue Highway

A portion of the money raised will also go to Jade and Zade's mother Dana, and grandfather Fred Ridge.
