Winston-Salem, NC-- Easter Sunday afternoon in a Winston Salem neighborhood went from sunny and quiet to sirens and emergency vehicles.

Around 12:48pm, a plane crashed and burned in a wooded area off Kearns Avenue near Dearborn. The two people who were onboard the small aircraft died in the crash. They were identified on Monday as 58 year-old Dennis Alan O'Nel and his wife 56 year-old Deborah Dee O'Neal of Blounts Creek, NC.

Investigators said they received a distress call after the plane left North Wilkesboro from the pilot who said he was going to try and land in Winston-Salem. No one heard from the pilot again. According to the FAA, the plane was headed from North Wilkesboro to Washington, NC.

Tuesday crews spent most of the day cleaning what was left of the wreckage. The NTSB is still investigating what caused the plane to crash.
