Greensboro, NC -- About 400 jobs could come to the Triad if TIMCO decides to expand at the Piedmont Triad International Airport. However, the company is also considering other sites in three Southern states and two Midwest states.
Company executives have about a month to decide.
Greensboro city leaders see aviation as a big part of this area's future success. Convincing TIMCO to expand here could encourage other companies to invest here.
"We've suffered a lot of job loss over the last 10 years. We definitely have seen a recovery. We think that will continue. Aviation is a major focus of ours in cluster development. So, it's critically important that we are able to land TIMCO here," Greensboro Economic Development Alliance President Dan Lynch said.
Lynch is leading the effort to win over TIMCO. Company executives already know about the Triad's strengths and weaknesses because the corporate headquarters are located here.
Now, it's all about what the Triad can offer. Both the City of Greensboro and Guilford County are considering investing $400,000 each to prepare a site for the company's expansion. Location and available land are also important.
In exchange, TIMCO would create 400 jobs. The average salary would be about $46,000. However, local business leaders don't know what states they are competing against.
"You can imagine that we want to know what our competition is doing. Certainly the competition wants to know how we are responding. You want to hold those cards pretty close," Lynch said.
