Mount Airy, NC -- A couple was arrested for drug and child abuse charges after officers said they found a meth lab in their hotel room.
The investigation started when officers with the Mount Airy Police Department responded to Walgreens about a person trying to get customers to buy Pseudoephedrine from the business. After a brief investigation, officers arrested Jared Shawn Jessup charging him with Possession of Methamphetamine.
Police also searched a room at the Starlite Motel. Investigators found and seized precurso inside the room. The chemical is used in the manufacturing of Methamphetamine, according to police.
Officers said Brittany Denise Hill and an 18-month-old child were also in the room. The Department of Social Services was also notified and took custody of the child.
Hill was charged with Misdemeanor Child Abuse, and two unrelated misdemeanor orders for arrests for her failure to appear and comply with court orders. Hill's bond was set at $35,325.
Jessup is also charged with 1 count of Misdemeanor Child Abuse and 1 count of Manufacturing Methamphetamine. His bond was set at $20,000.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Surry County Sheriff's Office assisted Mount Airy Police with the investigation.
