Winston-Salem is one of only four locations for the camp in the state.

Winston-Salem, NC -- The Olympics aren't for another year, but a group of local students participated in a competition of their own--a competition in the name of science.

More than 200 local middle and high school students competed in the regional Science Olympiad tournament to show off their science, engineering and math skills Saturday.

Students from nine area high schools and eight middle schools made bottle rockets, investigated crime scenes, flew gliders and solved genetics problems.

The students competed at Atkins Academic and Technology High School for spots in the state competition.

Volunteers from Wake Forest University and the Winston-Salem community helped organize the event.
