Greensboro, NC - Jefferson Elementary held "American Hero Day" in celebration for servicemen and women.

The day was even more special because it was also a send-off for a teacher at the school.

Students and staff at the elementary school honored Physical Education teacher, Matthew Ziminski. Student preformed by singing, dancing and shared passages of what a hero means to them.

Ziminski, a member of the US Air Force, is being deployed to Kuwait.

Friday, March 1 is his last day at the school. He plans to spend the next week, with his family. He's leaves North Carolina on March 6th. Ziminski plans to Skype and write to students during his deployment.

In salute of his commitment to service, students performed skits, songs and presented care packages. They even shared passages on what "American Hero Day" meant to them.

Ziminski will be deployed for 6-months. He's planning to return in October 2013.
