Greensboro, NC -- Sunset Hills in Greensboro has been added to the list of National Register of Historic Places by the NC Department of Cultural Resources Office of Archives and History.

Jennifer Mitchell, architectural historian at MDM Consults, surveyed the Sunset Hills neighborhood from 2011 through 2012. The area has more than 900 buildings.

The listing with National Register Historic District is Greensboro's first in more than 15 years, according to a news release from the City of Greensboro. The Sunset Hills neighborhood is one of the first suburban neighborhood developments in Greensboro.

The district, as we now know it, still includes many of the original plans from the developer in 1926. The most notable time-frame for Sunset Hills is 1925-1965 because it is the first time in Greensboro history that post-World War II architecture was recognized by historic district designation.

Greensboro has 12 other National Register Historic Districts which were designated between 1966 and 1995 and 40 individually designated historic properties.
