HIGH POINT - The City of High Point proposed a tax increase for all residents who own a vehicle.

The city is proposing an increase from $5 to $20 on all vehicles. The yearly tax would help with road repairs and building sidewalks. The $15 increase is the same as about $1.25 a month.

The city says it's behind on road repairs and the tax increase could raise more than $1 million.

Winston-Salem and Charlotte already have a $20 tax. Raleigh's tax is $25.

The NC General Assembly would have to approve the increase before it could take effect,
