CHARLOTTE (WBTV) -- A fire displaced residents from 24 units at a Southeast Charlotte apartment complex Sunday morning, according to WBTV.

More than 70 firefighters from four companies responded to the alarm around 8:20 a.m.

First responders found heavy smoke and flames when they made it to the scene on Glendale Chase Ct. Firefighters got the flames under control after about an hour.

Capt. Robert Brisley of the Charlotte Fire Department said firefighters rescued a family from the top floor of the three-story building using a ladder.

Two firefighters were injured at the scene, but they've since been treated and released from the hospital.

Fire investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire that displaced several families.

Police and firefighters evacuated the entire 24-unit building. Red Cross volunteers are on the scene to assess damage and work with families to meet their individual needs.

While crews worked to contain the fire, a person drove their car over a set of fire hoses, causing them to burst; the impact also blew out one of the car's tires.

Police arrested and charged the driver with obstruction.
