Kannapolis, NC -- Highway Patrol investigating a body found on I-85 South in Cabarrus County Saturday.
NCDOT said troopers closed the highway at the Lane Street exit (Exit 63) in Kannapolis after they responded around 12:30 p.m.
According to our sister station WBTV in Charlotte, the Highway Patrol got a call about a body on the roadway, about 12:30, Saturday afternoon and that the body had been hit several times before police arrived.
A motorist originally called authorities around 7:30 a.m. to report what they thought was a deer carcass in the road. Investigators later determined it was the victim.
The roadway was closed at least four hours while the investigation was underway.
WBTV is reporting that the body has been sent to the Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
