Greensboro, NC -- N.C. A&T announced it plans to outsource its campus bookstore after a decline in sales, according to the Greensboro News & Record.

The school says sales decreased by 15.7 percent between 2007 and 2012; the decline is mostly in textbook sales. The announcement came in a meeting with the university's trustees at the Alumni Foundation Event Center Friday.

While textbook sales have decreased due to online shopping and the hunt for competitive pricing, the university says personnel expenses for the campus bookstore have increased.

The A&T bookstore currently employs 16 full- and 11 part-time employees.

A&T says it plans to seek proposals from other companies, like Barnes & Noble, to manage the store. Vice Chancellor Robert Pompey told the News & Record the proposal the school chooses will allow employees to stay with the store for a year.

UNC-Greensboro has already outsourced its bookstore to Barnes & Noble.

A&T says it will decide who will manage its bookstore by the spring.
