Winston-Salem, NC -- The question, 'should schools postpone or close school due to weather' is a big debate. It's a difficult decision school districts have to make.

Officials with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools announced Thursday evening that schools will be closed Friday due to freezing rain that is expected in the morning.

The school district's communication director, Theo Helm, told WFMY News 2 the decision was made after looking at the forecast, which called for temperatures near freezing until 11 am Friday morning.

The weather advisory meant that more than 3 hours of school would be missed. Helm said he knows the district can't make everyone happy with their decision, but it was about the safety of the student body.

Helm also added that, the school district wanted to give parents ample time to make arrangements for students.
