High Point, NC -- We now know that the driver who crashed into the front entrance of High Point Regional's Emergency Room was trying to get away from police at the time.
A High Point police officer spotted 27-year-old Lynn Christopher Baskins driving the wrong way on College Drive, approaching Green Street around 4 o'clock Sunday morning. When the officer tried to stop Baskins, he drove away.
There was a short chase that ended at Kivett Drive and Main Street. That's when Baskins continued to drive north on North Main Street, and then ran into the front entrance of the hospital's emergency room.
There was about $75,000 in damage to the hospital.
Baskins is charged with DWI, felony speeding to elude, driving with a revoked license, careless and reckless driving and hit and run.
He was taken to the Guilford County jail, under a $20,000 bond.
