Greensboro, NC -- Boys Scout troops in the Triad went door to door Saturday to collect donations for their Scouting for Food program.

Last Saturday, the scouts distributed 240,000 food bags to homes from Boone to Burlington.

WFMY News 2's Food 2 Families is helping the young men feed those who are less fortunate across the Piedmont.

Once they picked up the bags, they took them to homeless shelters, churches and pantries in the area to help stuff their shelves.

If you did not receive a Scouting For Food bag, you can donate at Lowes Foods stores.

We started this effort together last Saturday and our goal is to collect enough food to fill local pantries, churches, shelters for the homeless and other agencies that feed those in need.

Last year Scouting for Food collected more than 202,000 pounds of food for families in need in the Piedmont.

All of the food items they collect remain in the county in which they were donated.
