New England -- It will likely go into the history books as the biggest snow storm in 35 years.

A powerful winter storm is bringing near hurricane-force winds, snow and blizzard conditions to the Northeast.

The brunt of the storm's fury hit New York City Friday night. Although the snow has ended, the city is stuck in about 2 feet of snow. Even higher amounts have been reported in central Long Island near Islip, NY. Strong winds are producing snow drifts near 7 feet over many areas.

The blizzard hit Boston this morning with 60 mph wind gusts. The Boston area already has 2 feet of snow and will likely receive an additional foot of snow before it tapers off to snow showers by sunset.

High pressure will build over New England Sunday. This will bring the area sunshine for Sunday with highs near freezing.

Another storm system will bring rain to much of the New York City area Monday. With poor drainage due to the mountain of snow, some flooding is possible in parts of the city.
