High Point, NC - All roads are open after an early Friday morning accident when an Amtrak train collided with a car, killing the driver.
Police in High Point said the driver, Dy Vongdara, 34-years-old, was travelling alone from work heading south on Pendleton St. toward E. Kivett Dr. in his 2010 Toyota Corolla. The man arrived at a railroad crossing and stopped for a freight train that was travelling west.
When the freight train was gone the man attempted to drive around the crossing arms, which were still activated from the freight train. At that moment an Amtrak train travelling east collided with the car.
Police said that the freight train may have obstructed the man's vision and prevented him from seeing the Amtrak train.
There were no other injuries or vehicles involved, no charges are pending.
