Burlington, NC - A man is behind bars, charged with First Degree Arson after police said he caused a fire at a Burlington apartment complex Thursday morning.
Early Thursday morning, Burlington Police and Fire Departments responded to a fire at Clifton Place Apartments on Trail One.
When officers arrived, they made forced entry in to Apt. 101 and discovered the sprinkler system had already extinguished the fire. No one was in the apartment at the time, but investigators said there was extensive damage to the apartment and an adjacent apartment.
Members of the Burlington Police and Fire Departments along with the NCSBI determined the fire was intentionally set.
As a result of the investigation, the apartment's tenant, 29-year-old Larry Iamon Oakley, was charged.
Oakley was arrested Friday by the Duke University Police Department and placed in the Durham County Jail under a $250,000.00 bond.
The investigation is still on-going and anyone with information is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500 or Alamance County CrimeStoppers at 336-229-7100.
