Stokesdale, NC-- So much for firefighters having a quiet weekend in Rockingham County.

Sunday night around 10:00pm, crews were dispatched to a two alarm fire at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Ellisboro Rd in Stokesdale.

The fire only did minor damage to the church thanks to a swift response by fire fighters.

The Rockingham County Fire Marshall told News 2 the fire was arson.

"Absolutely, we can without a doubt that this one was intentionally set which will refer back to the one from this morning that it is now most likely intentionally set also," said Robert Cardwell, Rockingham County Fire Marshall.

Fire crews will remain on the scene throughout the night.

Saturday, night at 10:15 pm, firefighters battled a two alarm fire at the Gideon United Methodist Church on Gideon Church Rd which is also in Stokesdale. The two churches are within minutes of each other.

Watch: Gideon UMC Destroyed By Fire

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the Gideon church fire, but are now calling the fire suspicious.

Rockingham County authorities tell News 2 that in light of the fires, they will be beefing up patrols around area churches.

"We're at Christmas time and it is really a terrible thing that you have to worry about your church being set on fire but it's obvious that we have an issue, we have a problem with individuals. I recommend anyone keep, if you're traveling in an area, check the local churches, check in the parking lot, see if they see any unusual vehicles there and if you do, call 9-11," said Cardwell.

If you know anything about either of these fires, call Rockingham County CrimeStoppers at (336) 349-9683.
