Raleigh, NC -- North Carolina state workers are asking to have a voice in the study that the General Assembly is planning on their compensation plans.

Workers and their advocates held a news conference Wednesday outside the Legislative Building, where they said lawmakers should hold public hearings on the study. Legislators plan a study of state workers' compensation plans, including personnel protections, career status and longevity pay.

Joining the state workers were members of UE Local 105 and supporters from the N.C. Justice Center. The workers and their advocates also talked about their working conditions and their need for collective bargaining rights.

A spokesman for House Speaker Thom Tillis didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.
