Greensboro, NC -- He's an icon who inspired a country in a time of war. He's been the focus of movies.
General George S. Patton was a strong personality who left an indelible fingerpring on our national story.
His grandson, Benjamin, is sharing stories about General Patton only he can tell.
"Growing up in my family was a pleasure a lot of people think of it as having it challenges growing up in the shadow of a couple of very successful generals but it has been pretty positive," says Benjamin.
Benjamin was speaking at a luncheon for the West Point Society of the Piedmont. His dad, MC George Patton, was a West Point grad (USMA1946) as was WWII General George Patton (USMA 1909).
"My grandfather was an equal opportunity offender as was my dad they used their personality in powerful ways and he had all kinds of quotes that he was famous for sometimes they were offensive sometimes they were helpful to soldiers."
Benjamin added,"You have to really remember your own history and record it and every family has a story and every families story is worth remembering and I often tell people when you lose a life its like burning down a library."
His book is titled "Growing Up Patton: Reflections On Heroes, History And Family Wisdom."
