Undated -- When the royal baby news broke, Twitter went crazy! Twitter said the term "royal baby" saw a 377% increase in the past 24 hours.
According to the site socialbakers.com, the royal baby news broke Twitter records, becoming the quickest trending Twitter hashtag. In less than an hour, there were more than 14,000 tweets!
And of course there are already spoof twitter accounts, @RoyalFeotus, @Royalfetus, @Iamroyalbaby, and @UnbornRoyal.
So why does it seem like so many people have an interest, or in some cases- obsession, with the royal couple?
Theresa Johnson, Director of Counseling Services at Family Service of the Piedmont, joined WFMY News 2's Frank Mickens on WFMY News 2 at 11:00 to talk about Americans and their interest in the royal family. Johnson said, "Americans typically love celebrity and the royals are the ultimate celebrity."
Johnson also talked about the baby's importance to people in England. To hear her response to that question and more, click play in the video window.
