GCS Teacher Of The Year Named Regional Finalist

Greensboro, NC -- Teacher Karyn Dickerson recently won the Guilford County Schools Teacher of the Year Award, now she's headed to the next level to compete for the state's top honor.

The school system announced in an assembly Friday that the Grimsley High English teacher is a regional finalist for the State Teacher of the Year award.

Family, students and staff watched as state officials made the announcement in the Grimsley High School auditorium.

Dickerson is a National Board Certified Teacher with a bachelor's degree in English and  master's degree in philosophy. She also teaches English Methods at Guilford College.

Dickerson was selected from 15 districts to represent the Piedmont Triad/Central region as one of eight public school regional finalists.

A ninth finalist will come from a state charter school.

The winner of the State Teacher of the Year award will be announced in the spring.
