Greensboro, NC - Five thousand people have something extra to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, all because of a local church.
Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro held its 4th Annual Feeding the 5,000 event Tuesday morning. Volunteers passed out boxes filled with enough food to feed a five-person family to the first 1,000 people in line.
Each box has a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans plus more all going to people who otherwise couldn't afford it.
Update: Church Officials that the doors opened at 9am and the 1,000 prepared boxes were gone within an hour. They did have an additional 1,000 bags of food that contained everything but turkey and those went just as quickly.
"I think this is one of the ways people can see love and faith and believe in people's actions," said Sallie, a woman in the line. "It shows that good works really can make a difference. They're truly good people in this world, especially during the holidays," she said.
The church also gave away free passes to the 2012 Lawndale Baptist Greensboro Christmas Spectacular on Dec. 8th and 9th. For more information on how you can get tickets to this Broadway style musical be sure to contact the church office. Call 336-288-3824.
