Atlanta, GA -- Authorities have found a body and the wreckage of a small plane that crashed in a marsh outside Savannah and are working to determine the cause of the incident.
According to WTOC, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police said David Wentz, 46, was flying from Causey, NC to Savannah on Sunday when his plane crashed.
A spokeswoman for the FAA told The Associated Press on Monday that the single-engine, 1968 Cessna 172 plane had been flying to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport from North Carolina on Sunday when it went missing.
Officials lost contact with the aircraft at 6:55 pm and one person was confirmed to be aboard according to WTOC.
reported Savannah-Chatham Metro Police, U.S. Coast Guard and state officials were involved in the search. The TV station reported the wreckage was found around 1 am, the body was found around 1:30 pm.
WTOC said that the site of the wreckage was hard to access, so rescue divers were flown in via helicopter. They confirmed one person was on board.
