Greensboro, NC - Mayor Robbie Perkins faces foreclosure on his home in addition to owing $30,000 to the federal government.
Perkins has made progress; originally he owed $86,000 on taxes in 2010. He said that the recession hit him hard, and he was unable to pay his taxes, meanwhile, the foreclosure on his home is related to his pending divorce.
"It's not anything I'm running away from, I file my taxes on time, I know what my responsibility is. I follow up on my communication with the taxing authorities and you work it out."
Perkins is a commercial real estate agent and has served as mayor since 2011, he has been on Greensboro's City Council since 1993 (excluding 2006).
Since the interview aired, Carole Perkins has also made a statement about the foreclosure. She says Robbie's comments make it seem as if she is trying to be unfair. In part of the interview, Robbie said there was a buyer. Carole says that is true, but it is for a short sale. She says she is willing to sign papers as long as there is a reasonable price for the home.
