New Hanover County, NC-- Deputies have wrapped up an investigation that started two months ago by charging a mother with trying to kill her daughter.
Friday, the New Hanover Sheriff's deputies arrested Jeannie Lynn Marvel and charged her with First-d=Degree Attempted Murder and Cruelty to Animals.
Officers allege that on September 9 they responded to Marvel's Scratch Court house after a friend called 911. The person said they found Marvel unresponsive, as well as Marvel's 9-year-old daughter and cat. Investigators believed at the time that the daughter and cat had been poison.
After being treated and released from the hospital the girl was taken into custody by the Department of Social Services. The cat was taken to the animal emergency room and also survived.
Marvel's daughter is now in Department of Social Services custody and the cat is still with the veterinarian.
Detectives executed a search warrant for Marvel's house and a warrant for her arrest on Friday.
Marvel was picked up from the hospital by sheriff's deputies after being released. Her bond was set at $500,000.
