Winston-Salem, NC -- Five hundred jobs could be headed to the old Dell plant. A maker of nutrition and weight-loss supplements is eyeing the defunct Dell Inc. computer manufacturing plant in North Carolina for an East Coast production center.
Catherine Carlock of the Triad Business Journal joined us Monday to talk about how real the possibility is that Herbalife would choose Winston-Salem over competing Atlanta. Carlock says the Dell plant gives us an edge. Herbalife would have to build a facility from scratch if the company chose Atlanta.
Monday night, a Winston-Salem City Council finance committee is expected to discuss a proposal to offer Herbalife an upfront payment of $450,000.
The total package of incentives and tax breaks is estimated at nearly $14 million.
The next date to keep in mind is a City Council meeting on November 19th. There is no timetable from Herbalife on a decision.
